After graduating from Western Washington University in 2009, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Electrician’s Mate, joining a proud tradition in his family of serving in the Armed Forces. Joseph spent two years in the very challenging Naval Nuclear Training Program, where served in various leadership roles and graduated in the top 10% of his class. He then served on the USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier, holding positions of training coordinator, drill team leader, and senior load dispatcher. It was here that he was introduced to The Pillars of the Program, the culture of values created by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover to create a highly elite and dynamic operating force. These Pillars include Integrity, Level of Knowledge, Questioning Attitude, Formality, and Forceful Watch Team Backup, becoming the basis from which Joseph developed many of his leadership beliefs.
When Joseph decided to leave military service, he was able to achieve a long-promised family goal of having his wife pursue a career with The Walt Disney Company in Orlando, FL. When the time was right, he was hired on as an engineering services manager with The Walt Disney Company, allowing his wife to also apply for the Company. During this time, he also finished his MBA and Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governor’s University, adding academic theory and application to his leadership toolbox. He is dedicated to the development of effective leadership practices for all members of an organization, believing that every individual holds formal and informal leadership roles and can make a difference in the culture of an organization.
